FORCC Scholarships - Due June 1st

Each year, the Fellowship of Orthodox Churches of Connecticut (FORCC) offers scholarships to the young people of member parishes who are graduating from high school and entering college. The scholarships are awarded at the organization’s annual banquet, which will be held on October 6^th this year.

Applications are now available and must be submitted by June 1, 2013. Contact Father Dennis to obtain one.

Cemetery Visitations - Sat, May 25th

On Saturday, May 25^th, we will visit our local cemeteries to bless the graves. The schedule will be as follows:

10:00 a.m. Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport (starting at Fr. Kovachi’s grave site)
1:00 p.m. Oaklawn Cemetery, Fairfield
2:30 p.m. Gate of Heaven, Trumbull

If there are other cemeteries you would like Father Dennis to visit for grave blessings, please contact him to make arrangement.

Volunteers needed/Food Drive for Spooner House - Sun, May 26th

We are collecting non-perishable food for the residents of Spooner House in Shelton. There is a container by the front door of the Church where people can place their donations.

Also, we will be serving dinner for the residents on Sunday, May 26^th. Further details will be available soon.

Summer Schedule begins Sunday, June 2nd

From the first Sunday in June (the 2^nd) through Labor Day, the first Sunday in September (the 1^st) we will be on Summer Schedule. This means that the Divine Liturgy will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Prizes and Fundraising Events for Relay for Life Team

1) The first individual to sell 10 Luminaria Bags at $10.00 each will receive a $20.00 gift card to Stop and Shop to purchase items for Relay and will also receive a bag of Relay goodies.

2) Any team to reach 13 members by 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16^th will be entered into a drawing for a $70.00 Sports Center of Connecticut gift card and will have the opportunity as a team to host the Luminaria Ceremony. The team will also receive a bag of Relay goodies. The drawing will be held on Tuesday, April 16^th at the Team Captain meeting at Masuk High School in the media center at 7:00 p.m. and you must be present to win.

Here are some upcoming fundraisers for our Relay for Life team, The Wonderworkers:

On Saturday, May 11^th, a Zumba fundraiser with Heatherly will be held in the Church Hall. Tickets: $20 if purchased in advance, $25 if purchased at the door.
On Wednesday, May 22^nd, there will be a dinner-time fundraiser at 99 Restaurant on Boston Ave. in Stratford. People can have a meal, and the restaurant will contribute a percentage of each bill to the American Cancer Society on behalf of our Relay team.
On Sunday, May 26^th, a “Springtime Brunch” will be held following the Liturgy. Tickets: $10 for adults, $5 for kids.

2013 New England Youth Rally - Aug 12th-17th

We have just received notice that the 2013 New England Youth Rally will be held August 12^th through 17^th. Rally is open to young people who have completed the fifth grade and have not yet reached their 18^th birthday. It is also open to adults who are interested in serving as leaders.

Energy Fund Raiser for Parish

North American Power is offering our parishioners and friends the opportunity to cut our electric bill and support our parish at the same time.

On the internet, visit www.napower/178996 to sign up to have North American Power as your electricity provider and the company will donate $1.00 per month to Saint George Church.

Thank you to all who signed up for North American Power. We have earned a total of $416 for the church!

It’s time to sign up for The Wonderworkers of Saint George, our parish team for the 2013 Monroe/Trumbull Relay for Life which will be held June 7^th & 8^th at Trumbull High School.

Sue Galich and Janet Caliendo are our Team Captains. They can answer any questions people might have.

The Monroe/Trumbull Relay for Life cancer fundraiser event will be held June 7th and 8th at Trumbull High School.

Cantor Van Michael was acknowledged on his 80th birthday after Divine Liturgy for his faith and dedication to the church. The choir donated an Icon of the Last Supper to the church in his name and luncheon was served during coffee hour to celebrate the occassion. May God Grant Van Many Years!

Mother's Day - 2013

On Sunday at Divine Liturgy the parish of St. George remembered all of the living and departed mothers, grandmothers and godmothers of our parish community in prayer. Our thanks go out to Ron Dougiello of Commerce Hill Funeral Home, who donated long-stemmed roses which were given out as a gift to all mothers in attendance.

Our fund-raising Brunch on March 17^th raised a total of $1,794. This money will be used to cover the expenses for snow removal after the last major snow storm and the installation of the new stove in the kitchen. Thank you to all!

Pan-Orthodox Vespers held at St. George

Pan-Orthodox Vespers were held at St. George on the 2nd Sunday of Great Lent. Sunday Vespers services are rotated through the various Orthodox Churches of the Greater Bridgeport region during Great Lent each year. We express our gratitude to everyone who helped to prepare for the service, especially the ladies who cooked and served the meal afterward.

For May 2013, our Charity Collection will be used to assist Nikola Tarisu, a young man recently arrived from Albania who lost all his possessions in a recent fire in Waterbury.
